This is NOT the kind of press you want before your blockbuster movie comes out.
The director of X-Men: Days of Future Past Bryan Singer was slapped with a lawsuit on Wednesday that calls out the director for the sexual abuse of a 17-year-old teenage boy back in 1999.
Plaintiff Michael Egan, who filed in Hawaii’s federal court, claims Singer invited him to his mansion in Encino, California that was known to feature “sexual contact between adult males and the many teenage boys who were present for the parties.”
Apparently over the next couple of years, starting when the plaintiff was 14 or 15, Egan claims that Singer repeatedly sexually molested him. Including a specifically graphic time where he claims Singer performed oral sex on him and “strong-armed” him by pushing his head underwater to perform it on Singer.
The plaintiff also accuses Singer of giving him lots of drugs including “coke” and also promising him a role in a movie after telling him how “this group” controls Hollywood.
Here’s what the director’s lawyer Marty Singer said:

“The claims made against Bryan Singer are completely without merit. We are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit. It is obvious that this case was filed in an attempt to get publicity at a time when Bryan’s new movie is about to open in a few weeks.”

We definitely agree that this lawsuit was aptly planned for effect, and we’re also curious why anyone would wait until now to file a lawsuit? If this alleged incident DID happen in 1999, there was plenty of time to do it — and we’re totally aware of the courage it would take to do so.
We’re just a little skeptical by the timing, but that doesn’t mean we’re not taking it seriously as ALL accusations of abuse should be!
Still, it’s such a long time to wait over something like this, but hey – maybe it just took this long after something so traumatic!
