At this year’s Boston Marathon, bib number 14285 belonged to 34-year-old running enthusiast Kara Bonneau. But she wasn’t the only one wearing those digits come race day!
After finishing the 26.2 mile competition, the North Carolina native went online to look at her official photo package and was shocked at what she saw!
Four other people were included in the series of shots wearing HER bib number!
Then it hit her – these bib bandits must have printed out the pic of her bib that she posted on Instagram the night before!
They then entered the race and ran illegally, without paying or going through any of the qualifications to be a part of the marathon!
And those qualifications aren’t easy!
Acceptance is first based on an entrant finishing a different city’s marathon. If you’ve never done a marathon before, then you CAN’T run in Boston.
They then accept people based on their times, with the fastest qualifiers (based on age and gender) being accepted first!
Kara worked hard and qualified. But these four cheaters did NOT!
And now, a local college coach is coming forward to identify (sort of) the two guys pictured above!
Boston College cross country assistant coach Tim Ritchie says those gentlemen were once on his team. He refused to give any names, but instead said that both of these kids were running to raise money for charity. They resorted to stealing their bibs after missing the deadline to apply for entry.
We’re all for raising money for a good cause but not when you break the rules in the process!
The two women in the photos have yet to be identified, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they all know each other and all printed out Kara’s same Insta pic.
Whoever these thieves are though, they should be ashamed of themselves! And they should NEVER be allowed to run the Boston Marathon again!
