Turns out good music isn’t just meant to listen to in the club or on your iPhone — it’s also helpful to listen to when you’re giving birth!
A new study polled over 1,000 mothers and asked them whether they thought music was a positive thing while delivering a child, and a majority answered with a resounding yes!
Four out of five mommas listen to music in the maternity ward, and the most popular songs of choice were Katy Perry‘s Roar and Diana RossAin’t No Mountain High Enough.
The music isn’t just there to drown out the mother’s painful screams either!
Many moms in the poll felt that music provides a distraction to the extreme amount of pain they’re going through, and some even found the tunes provided them with a feeling of control during the latter stages of labor.
A spokesperson for the parenting club Bounty who conducted the survey said:

“Research has shown familiar music can help mums feel calm and in control when giving birth. And in a practical sense it can also help to block out distractions in the delivery room, such as background noise. With modern technology now allowing us to download music whenever and wherever we want, it’s unsurprising that we’ve seen a growing trend amongst mums-to-be for creating special playlists for labour.”

Even celebrity moms listen to music during the delivery of their child. Like Mariah Carey who chose to listen to her own fabulous track We Belong Together while popping out her twins!
Bounty’s spokesperson also said:

“Labour playlists are fast becoming an essential part of mums’ hospital bag today, but mums should think carefully about the music they choose to create the best atmosphere possible for birth. And when it comes to the type of music, our research shows it all comes down to personal taste when making the delivery room feel like home. Although you may want to consider whether head-banging heavy metal will really create the most relaxing environment to welcome a baby into the world.”
