This seriously sounds like a living hell.
When boarding a plane in Abu Dhabi, preparing yourself for the 16 hour flight ahead of you, the last thing you’d want is your flight delayed.
The worst is if your flight gets delayed while on the runway and you’re forced to stay on the plane. But imagine if you had to wait on the plane for HOURS.

Like how about half a freakin’ day?!
Due to fog, passengers on Etihad Airways Flight 183 were stuck on the runway for 12 hours!! How did that even happen??
A passenger who eventually landed in San Francisco told reporters:
“They kept telling us that we were going to leave, you know 15 minutes from now, 20 minutes from now, 30 minutes for now, for 12 hours.”
That’s just so AWFUL!
Apparently the entire Abu Dhabi airport was too crowded with other passengers, stranded from other flights.
With the airport at capacity, the unlucky passengers of flight 183 were left to rot on their plane. Some passengers tweeted:
Hey @EtihadAirways, I’ve been sitting on EY 183 in Abu Dhabi for 10 hours now. THIS IS NOT OK. There are kids and seniors on this flight.

EY183 on runway for 9 hours. Terrible service and crew won’t serve food. Now further delays as they replace (unserved) food. @EtihadAirways

That’s crazy! We can’t believe they wouldn’t even serve anyone food while they were stuck on the aircraft!
The airline sorta apologized tweeting:
We apologise for the serious inconvenience that these events have caused, which have been beyond our control. 8/8

Nice “apology” but we feel like a full refund would be in order for every passenger after a fiasco like this.
Inneresting fact: In the U.S. there are serious fines after a plane is stuck 3 hours on the tarmac; 4 hours for international flights.
Those fines can go as high as $27,000 per passenger!!
We’re just glad the flight eventually landed in San Fran without any serious in-flight issues. 28 hours in a plane is no way to spend an entire day.
