This cannot be serious…
Prince‘s sudden death sparked emotional reactions from most of the world, but one breakfast behemoth crossed a line while mourning on Thursday.
Or at least, you would assume Cheerios did something wrong based off Twitter‘s intensely negative response to their “tasteless” tweet.

Must be unimaginably insensitive, right?!
Ch-ch-check out Cheerios’ “scandalous” Prince tribute (below)!!!

Yep.
“Rest in peace” with a Cheerio in place of a tittle was enough to offend hundreds of cereal eaters yesterday…
In fact, the General Mills brand received so much backlash for their mostly harmless post that they actually deleted it in just a couple of hours!
They apologized in a statement, saying:
“As a Minnesota brand, Cheerios wanted to acknowledge the loss of a musical legend in our hometown. But we quickly decided that we didn’t want the tweet to be misinterpreted, and removed it out of respect for Prince and those mourning.”
Obviously they didn’t pull down the Cheerio quickly enough for many fans.
Here are some of the strongest reactions the plain cereal has ever received:

Feeling really sad for the poor Cheerios social guy who really likes Prince and just wanted to do something to honour him

Can’t believe that Cheerios Prince ad. Incredibly poor taste to use his death for self promotion. smh

@cheerios, please put your tribute back up. It’s not tasteless. We all honor #prince in our own way. pic.twitter.com/EdXkTlV5Bl
