The death of talented actor Anton Yelchin has officially been ruled accidental.
As you know, the 27-year-old was found Sunday pinned between his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the gate of his Studio City home after the car rolled backward down the steep driveway. So tragic.
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office now officially confirms the Star Trek star died of accidental “blunt traumatic asphyxia,” People reports.

An LAPD spokesperson also confirms Yelchin’s Jeep is the same model that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recalled in April for its gearshift design that makes it difficult to tell what gear the vehicle is in, explaining:
“We are looking into that. The investigation is still ongoing and the traffic detectives will look at all of those factors as they would in any traffic collision investigation. So, at this time we’re not sure what caused it, but that’s something investigators are looking at.”
The investigation into the exact circumstances of Anton’s death is ongoing, and it will be about 6-8 weeks until toxicology results are expected to be available.
