Behind every world record-breaking woman there’s an even stronger man…
At least that’s the case according to one NBC commentator!
As you may have seen, Katinka Hosszú became the first breakout star of the 2016 Summer Olympics when she won the gold medal in the 400 m individual medley in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.

While the Hungarian’s historic swim quickly went viral, it was the adorable celebration between Katinka and her coach/husband Shane Tusup that really captured everyone’s attention!
However, the cheers quickly quieted online when viewers noticed that sportscaster Dan Hicks almost immediately credited Shane for the world record swim!
And the viewer backlash was swift:

So many fans bashed Dan for attributing a woman’s huge accomplishment to her husband, in fact, that he was forced to apologize for the sexist blunder on Sunday… kind of:
“With live TV, there are often times you look back and wished you had said things differently… It is impossible to tell Katinka’s story accurately without giving appropriate credit to Shane, and that’s what I was trying to do.”
We guess Dan doesn’t care how his comments came off, because that was not really an apology…
And as for “appropriate credit” — while it makes sense to praise the coach, giving him credit over the swimmer doesn’t even make sense regardless of their genders!
Still, congrats on the gold, Katinka!!!
Do U think NBC really had anything to apologize for??
