At a time of civil unrest in our country, Ben & Jerry’s is not going to keep chill.
In the past, the Vermont-based creamery has thrown its support to marriage equality and Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, but now the dairy dessert maker is weighing in on yet another heated social movement: Black Lives Matter.
On Thursday, Ben & Jerry’s announced its support of the Black Lives Matter Movement on Twitter, along with a statement on systemic racism that encouraged others to engage in the cause.

The statement, signed by Your Friends at Ben & Jerry’s, reads:
“Systemic and institutionalized racism are the defining civil rights and social justice issues of our time. We’ve come to understand that to be silent about the violence and threats to the lives and well-being of Black people is to be complicit in that violence and those threats.”
Twitter was on fire immediately after the political statement was posted, with many on a sugar rush of celebration over the company’s firm stance on the controversial issue.
Of course, the declaration didn’t sit well with everyone, as many racists from the opposing side had some not-so-sweet responses.
Ch-ch-check out the strongest reactions (below)!
Many celebrated BJ’s statement by coming up with funny flavor suggestions:
