The poncho controversy lives on!
Gigi Hadid recently appeared on Access Hollywood to address the fact that she was deemed not thin enough or tall enough for the Tommy Hilfiger runway presentation in February 2015, so she was put in an oversized poncho as a result.

She defended the designer, saying that he was rooting for her all the way:
“Tommy was rooting for me and… regardless of what the stylist of that season said or what he put me in, Tommy wanted me in the show, and Tommy was pushing for me and Tommy loved my curves. The next season I wore a bikini on the same runway with the same stylist of the show that had previously put me in a poncho. So, I think you learn and that’s something that I think that brands had to become more accepting of because it was proven after that show that it was the best-selling [piece].”
It’s true! The poncho went on to become a big hit because Gigi was wearing it, and it’s what prompted Tommy to ask her to co-design a line with him.
In a way, everything turned out great, but it’s still ridiculous that the supermodel wasn’t considered thin enough and had to have her body hidden in what is basically a high-end version of a tent. Tsk tsk!
But we suppose the 21-year-old kind of has to defend her boss, otherwise things would be hella awkward.
