North Carolina simply cannot get its shit together!
Legislators were set to vote Thursday on the repeal of House Bill 2 (HB2), also known as the “Bathroom Bill,” a bill that prohibits transgender people from using the bathroom that best adheres with their gender identities.

As a “compromise,” legislators offered a new version of the year-old law that is ostensibly a repeal of HB2, but actually continues to ban local municipalities and schools from regulating bathroom access. It also prevents cities from offering their own job and bathroom protections until 2020.
It’s not a real repeal! And still discriminates against LGBTQ people!
The NCAA has vowed to keep the state from any hosting duties until 2022, potentially costing it BILLIONS of dollars in revenue. It’s also one of the reasons legislators are now scrambling to repair the damage. Too bad they just can’t bring themselves to actually repeal the dumb and discriminatory law in the first place!
Plenty of celebs and LGBT activists decried the so-called compromise on Twitter:
The remixed #HB2 is incendiary & about more than bathrooms. It blocks non-discrimination protections til 2020. https://t.co/qPNrCKJw0l

We call on @NCAA a to stand with us and transgender people and against discrimination. Don’t settle for this fake repeal. #RepealHB2

“Compromise” not a repeal of HB2, it├óΓé¼Γäós doubling down on the worst parts of that discriminatory law. #RepealHB2.

This backroom deal does not #RepealHB2, it just rearranges the deck chairs on the Titanic.

HB2.0 is not a repeal. It prohibits trans people in schools and all gov’t buildings from receiving protection. https://t.co/TrmvzAQmxy

It’s really disappointing and disheartening that North Carolina refuses to do better by some of its most vulnerable citizens.
We hope they come to their sense and fully repeal HB2.
