Now is not a great time to be Zoella.
Not only is the YouTube star under fire for the extremely-high pricing of her advent calendar (and the shitty apology that followed) — but she’s also having to face resurfaced tweets in which she made homophobic and other offensive remarks. Flop.
One thing at a time here, plz.
So, tons of fans were super disappointed in the Internet personality when she marketed her “12 days of Christmas” product (also featuring a key ring, pen, bauble, cookie cutter, jotter, candle, stickers, and other trinkets) for a whopping ├é┬ú50 (~$66) each. Considering her young fan base, we can understand the shock!

Dismayed followers took to Twitter to complain:
Disgusting that @Zoella is charging £50 for her branded advent calendar (with only 12 doors lol) when the majority of her fans are still in primary school and the products are cheap christmas cracker crap. Utterly shameful.

Can you believe the actual nerve of that Zoella trying to sell a 12 day advent calendar filled with shite like a cookie cutter, star shaped confetti and stickers to her 10 year old fans for £50

Zoella is a perfect example of people deliberately using their platforms for nothing other than to give themselves a bigger pay cheque every month. £50 for a poorly designed 12 day cheap advent calendar is an insult to anyone who has ever supported her

Zoella added fuel to the fire when she offered a backhanded apology, shifting the blame from herself to the retailer, Boots.
She said in a 30-minute vlog:
“There has been some upset, disappointed people in the Zoella lifestyLe advent calendar, specifically the price of the calendar. The last thing I want to do is anger, upset, or disappoint anyone because that is not my intention in the slightest … I love the product. I am all about the creativity, from a design to a product. Where my input ends is there. Once that product is done and I am happy with it, the retailer can decide how much they sell that for. That’s completely out of my decision making … I feel just as let down by this also and the price of any product is up to a retailer.”
People weren’t satisfied with this explanation, to say the least:
Shock horror, @Zoella shifted the blame for her advent calendar off onto someone else. Didn’t see that one coming 😑🤔

Just finished @zoella ‘apology’ for her calendar. The only time she said sorry was in the sentence ‘I’m sorry that YOU feel disappointed in the product’. Says it all really. Disgusting.

Anyone else notice how @Zoella Zoella said she had no control over the price of the advent calendar but never once mentioned that she disagreed with the price? Quite happy to pass the blame onto someone else whilst still profiting from the decision 🤔🤔🤔

@Zoella s apology is worse than the fucking product, just blaming it on boots and patronising everyone by saying it’s difficult to understand. It’s not hard you just like money.

In response, Boots has slashed the price in half to ├é┬ú25 during its “Christmas promotion”:
“We are sorry to hear that the price of the Zoella 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar has disappointed a number of customers, we always listen to feedback.”
Then there’s drama number two.
Zoella has now issued an apology for another controversy involving unearthed tweets where she uses offensive AF language.
The now-deleted messages read:

Womp womp.
Again, she apologized saying:
I├óΓé¼Γäóve seen a few of my old tweets from 7/8 years ago floating around (which I have now deleted) using words like “chav” “skank” and other words I wouldn├óΓé¼Γäót use now as part of my language and lot of them were taken out of context referring to TV shows but I would never say those

things now and I’m sorry if I have offended anyone, that was not my intention. Obviously that is not who I am today and I’d like to think I’m a little older and wiser! I’m not perfect and I’ve never claimed to be, I’m only human!
