R.I.P.

Metal legend Ronnie James Dio passed away at the age of 67 on Saturday.

He had announced during his tour last year that he was suffering from stomach cancer.

Dio was a singer for Rainbow, Dio, and in 1979, replaced Ozzy Osbourne as the new Black Sabbath frontman.

He was legendary in the rock and metal world and his album Heaven And Hell was considered to be one of the greatest metal albums of all time. He’s also been credited with popularizing the “devil horn” hand gesture, which became the widely-accepted symbol for metal.

His wife Wendy Dio released a statement on the frontman’s website:

“Today my heart is broken. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us … Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.”
