But…but…
…we were so excited!
The Aaliyah made-for-TV biopic might not be happening after all! There might be too many conflicts already and they haven’t even started filming!
Despite an announcement that Lifetime would begin filming this summer and Zendaya‘s fight to play the titular character, there has been some crazy backlash about the 17-year-old playing the later super star.
Following the harsh words from haterz, Zendaya tweeted:
I'm just a 17 year old girl who got cast to play one of her biggest inspirations #positive

And the Aaliyah estate and loved ones also responded:
However ,we do ask that you are respectful to the artist playing the role, for they may not fully have or know the details about this role

You go gurl! Show them what you can do!
But there is still one teeny tiny problem.
According to Aaliyah’s former manager and uncle, Barry Hankerson, the network did NOT consult the late singer’s surviving family members and now it is believed they plan to do just about ANYTHING to stop the movie from using any of her songs.
They’re also not too happy that the film won’t be on the big screen with a theatrical release.
Considering how big and beloved Aaliyah’s music still is, we don’t blame them!
