In America, we have plenty of exhibits for our Dolphin friends, but they aren’t so popular in Armenia.
Protestors representing an alliance of 50 environmentalist and animal rights groups gathered outside a brand new dolphinarium in Armenia with signs reading, “Don’t use dolphins for entertainment”.
The protestors believe that not only is it cruel to put confined dolphins on display, but also argue that the drastic winter temperature and dry heat could harm the 4 dolphins housed in the domed dolphinarium.
Ruben Khachatrian, director of the Fund for Wildlife Protection, said:
“Summer is too dry and winter is too severe, which is harmful for dolphins and other sea mammals.”
Others though, like dolphin trainer Dmitry Uryvsky, doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about since the dolphins are living in a controlled environment. He said:
“I don’t understand this protest — we are giving children an opportunity to interact with these beautiful animals.”
What do U think about the protest?
