Is one of your New Years’ resolutions to get into shape? Probably.
Will you follow through with it? According to researchers, you’ll be much more likely if you stick to a routine that fits your personality.
Here are some major personality types, and the workout routines that work well for them:
Conscientious People – Choose a regular exercise routine where you’ll have complete control, i.e. solo activities such as weightlifting or using a treadmill
Impulsive People – Write down your workout plan in detail, give yourself short-term goals instead of long-term ones, and focus on activities that “give you a buzz or high” such as sprinting
Extroverts And Agreeable People – Choose a routine where you’ll interact with others, i.e. group classes or team sports (as long as they aren’t TOO competitive or aggressive)
Neurotic People – Choose routines that will calm you down and help you relax, i.e. yoga
People Who Exhibit “Openness to Experience” – If you crave adventure and excitement
then you’re probably not a jedi, try a routine that involves outdoor exercise, i.e. running, cycling, or walking
Figure out which personality type you are and give a personality-based routine a try!
And for the neurotic folks out there – we highly recommend you try some yoga! You’ll thank us later.
