We can’t imagine how Carter Thicke feels right now.
As we previously reported, the 19-year-old was playing hockey with his father Alan Thicke at an ice skating rink in Burbank, California when the famous TV dad suffered a sudden heart attack.
The Growing Pains star later died at the hospital at 69 years old. But Carter initially thought his dad would pull through due to his characteristically sunny disposition.

The teen recalled the harrowing experience in a new interview with ET, admitting he thought his dad would recover once they got to the hospital. He explained:
“The ambulance came and the paramedics had stabilized him and everything seemed fine.”
Carter recounted his last words to his father, who was just as perfect of a parent IRL as he was on TV, adding:
“I got to give him a hug and said, ‘I love you,’ and that was the last time I saw him├óΓé¼┬ª He was like the perfect dad.”
Wow. He must have been so shaken up.

Thicke’s youngest son honored his father on Instagram in the wake of his passing, describing the TV icon as his “best friend” and “idol”:
Today I lost my best friend and my idol, and the world lost one of it’s finest. I have never known a more kind, loving, hairy, and generous person in my life and I am forever grateful for the light that this man brought to my life and so many others. You will be missed every second of every day. You are a legend and I love you Pops. Until next time.A photo posted by Carter Thicke (@carter_thicke) on Dec 13, 2016 at 8:42pm PST
