Alec Baldwin Pulls Out Of Emmys After Bit About Murdoch Phone-Hacking Scandal Gets Cut

And Leonard Nimoy steps in!

Alec Baldwin pulled out of the Emmys after he found out a bit involving the Rupert Murdoch phone-hacking scandal was cut from a pre-taped opening for the Sunday night’s awards show.

Alec apparently even worked with the show’s writers to pen the script, but after he discoverd it was cut, he told the network that he prefers if the skit with him didn’t air at all. According to Baldwin’s peeps, it had nothing to do with the subject matter, but he didn’t think the skit would be cohesive without the joke.

Since the awards show will air on Fox, we can only wonder why the joke was cut. Alec will not be attending the actual awards show (even though he’s nominated) due to a prior commitment to be at Tony Bennett‘s birthday bash in New York.

It sounds a little sketchy to us. We don’t blame Alec for wanting to pull out if they had agreed to let him use the joke in the first place. And besides, we get Leonard Nimoy in his place! Yay!

UPDATE: Alec just tweeted this:

Fox did kill my NewsCorp hacking joke. Which sucks bc I think it would have made them look better. A little.

Oooh, burn! Get it, Alec!!
