Probably because they’ve seen the original, which is downright obscene in comparison to the MTV version, so they don’t get the problem.
Steve Morrison, the CEO of All3Media, the British-based company behind the controversial teen series on MTV, is flabbergasted that so many companies have pulled their advertising from the American version of Skins. The show has been on the air for five years across the pond and they have never had this issue. When Steve arrived in Miami this morning for NATPE, he was asked to comment on the scandal. He told sources:
“On ‘Skins,’ I really have no idea specifically why advertisers are pulling out. But we stand behind what MTV has said and done about the hoopla. The show in our view explores real world issues in a frank, responsible and legal way.”
We guess America just isn’t ready for that amount of frankness. Good thing he reminded us that everything’s legal too. We almost forgot that for a second.
Wonder if there will be ANY advertisers left by tomorrow?
