Amber Heard & Johnny Depp's Doggy Drama Escalates! Australia Is NOT Letting The Couple Off The Hook!

Australian authorities are barking mad!
Back in May, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard brought their two adorable Yorkies into Australia during the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Unfortunately for the couple, they chose not to document the pups — a big NO NO for Australian authorities.
After Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce publicly admonished the famous pair and gave the Yorkies (Pistol and Boo) 72 hours to “bugger off”, the puppies were quickly returned to the United States.
Now, a few months AFTER the fact, Australia gifted Heard with a summons to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court in Queensland on September 7 — after she was CHARGED with two counts of illegally importing the couple’s dogs and one count of producing a false document on Tuesday.
What the what?!

Speaking of the summons, an Australian official stated:

“All animals entering Australia must have an import permit, and have undergone relevant testing and health checks signed off by a government veterinarian from the exporting country to ensure pests and diseases from overseas are not brought here.”

Hmm. While Johnny and Amber should have followed protocol, the pups were quickly removed from the country — so where’s the issue now? It seems like Australia is trying to make an example of the newlyweds.
In fact, if found guilty, the Magic Mike XXL star could face a penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $75,000 for the importation charges AND an additional penalty of up to a year in prison with a fine of $7,500. Yikes!
However, the starlet may never have to return to the country-slash-continent since Heard’s legal team can petition to appear on her behalf. Unfortunately, with the seriousness of the case there is a chance she’ll have to appear in court herself.
Whomp, whomp.
The good news is that if found guilty the 29-year-old will most likely not face a lengthy sentence as the little dogs were deported before the 72 hour deadline. Yay?
