American Guns has fired its last shot.
The Discovery Channel reality series, centered around a family who owns and operates a gun store, will not air a third season.
Three months following the second season’s conclusion on September 5, the network finally released an official statement:
“American Guns concluded earlier this year. Discovery Channel chose not to renew the series and has no plans to air repeats of the show.”
Since last week’s Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, the question of gun control has been a hot topic… but was the final decision to cancel and not air reruns of the popular series related at all to the murders of 20 children and six adults in Newtown, Connecticut last week?!
While Discovery didn’t comment about the shooting, if the tragedy did actually lead to the show’s cancellation, this will be Hollywood’s biggest response thus far.
Multiple shows including Syfy’s Haven, TLC’s Best Funeral Ever, Fox’s Family Guy, and American Dad were pulled from the air last week due to content that suddenly seemed insensitive to a wounded nation.
In film news, Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher has cancelled two events in respect for the victims, but is still set to release the film centered around sniper shootings.
Regardless of the reasoning, we stand by Discovery’s decision.
Don’t worry, guys. There’s still plenty of reality TV not centered around guns!!!
