It only took ten years for the ratings to finally start slipping, so nobody can say the show didn’t have a good run on top.
American Idol is no longer the most popular show of its genre on television. After steadily declining in ratings over the last couple of weeks, The Voice is reigning supreme with a 6 point ratings score, compared to Idol‘s 5.2.
Don’t get us wrong, the FOX show is still a bonafide hit and attracting millions upon millions of viewers every week, but there are signs Idol is losing its monster strength.
In just one week, the total viewership slipped from 18.9 million to 15.9 and took a 16% hit to the coveted 18-49 demographic.
15 million still ain’t bad, however, so this reality competition will most definitely be around for years to come.
Sources also point out that The Voice is in the show’s most popular phase, while Idol is in its least, as J. Lo and the gang weed through the top 24. Idol‘s ratings could easily climb back up to the top once the competition narrows to the top 12.
