Everyone knows about the feuding divas on American Idol this upcoming season.
But the person that really runs the show?
That may be Ryan Seacrest.
Or at least that’s what the show’s executive producer Nigel Lythgoe thinks.
Here’s what he said:
“Ryan Seacrest drives the entire program. He’s not on an earpiece or anything. He’s not beholden to anybody. He controls the show. He’s really important. It would be very, very difficult to replace Ryan Seacrest.”
Nigel kind of got a hold of himself before saying anything he may regret. That’s a lot of power to give to one guy – even if it is a classy and charming guy like Ryan.
Nigel continued:
“I’ve never believed that Idol as a franchise is beholden to any individual because everybody said it would die the minute Simon Cowell left, and it hasn’t.”

We doubt Ryan S will hold the show hostage now that he realizes how powerful he is, but it still must be nice for him to feel so wanted.
