Bret Easton Ellis, the man who wrote American Psycho, doesn’t seem to have a lot of compassion for the kids contemplating suicide.
Amidst all of the coverage of school children being bullied — mostly for things they can’t help — he has taken to Twitter to say:
When I was bullied: you manned-up. You learned something. You realized: I’m not getting the gold star. You realized: you lose. Deal with it.
Sigh. Some people just don’t get it.
We’re sorry to hear he dealt with bullies growing up too, and we’re glad he was able to pull himself up for air, but we’re not all built the same.
Children are children. And some are being raised by bullying parents which only delays –if not prolongs– their inability to properly cope with the violent words and actions of their peers.
And even if a bullied child has loving parents, he or she still might not be able to cope because, well, they’re A CHILD!!!
Some are tough. Some are sensitive. Doesn’t matter. Bullying others, especially for things they have no control over, is wrong, and we’re glad the issue isn’t being pushed under the rug any longer.
