Let this be a warning to anybody considering giving up their pet to a shelter!
The adorable dog, busy making snow angles in the snow above, was reluctantly surrendered to the North Utah Valley Animal shelter by her owner, Gayle, because she wasn’t getting along with the other pets.
Gayle wanted to find a new, loving home capable of taking care of Sheena, but what she didn’t expect is for her dog to be sold to a nearby university for animal tests!
Gayle regularly called up the shelter to check up on her dog and one day was hit with the news that her dog had been sold to the university.
When Gayle asked NUVAS staffers for details on the shelter’s arrangement with the university, she was told that shelter employees are prohibited from speaking with the public about it.
Talk about shady business practices!
The distraught pet lover immediately called PETA’s emergency hotline and learned that dogs who are purchased from NUVAS by the university are often surgically mutilated and killed.
Oh no!
Gayle demanded that they return Sheena to her, and with PETA’s help, she found Sheena a loving foster home, where the dog will stay until a permanent home becomes available.
This story may have had a happy ending, but most of them don’t.
PETA is urging NUVAS to follow in the footsteps of every other shelter in the state and stop betraying homeless animals by selling them for experiments.
If you can’t take care of an animal and need to give it to a shelter, please do that animal a favor and make sure the shelter does not sell animals off for experiments!
