Earlier in the week, we reported that Bosnia had objections to Angelina Jolie filming her directorial debut in the country. Politicians had objections due to the fact that movie is a love story about a Serbian rapist and his Muslim captive.
Now, Angie is facing criticism from the association Women Victims of War, who accused the film of presenting “misleading history.” These grievances actually aided the Bosnian government in deciding to hold back permits for the film.
This morning, Angelina reportedly contacted the women’s group through the UNHCR and said, “Don’t judge me before you see the film.”
She continued on to say:
“Obviously any dramatic interpretation will always fail those who have had a real experience. This is not a documentary…There are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters, and that will be revealed once the film is released.”
We don’t know how many twists that could make this scenario acceptable, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
