Study Finds Antibiotics Don't Help Cure Sinus Infections

Antibiotics sinus
If you’re trying to save money these days, studies are finding it might be a good idea to stop buying antibiotics for your sinus troubles.
The newest research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, which confirms past doubts, found that amoxicillin was no better than a placebo at improving symptoms of a sinus infection.
Lead author Jane Garbutt, an associate professor at the Washington University School of Medicine, told sources:

“Compared to placebo, amoxicillin doesn’t seem to provide any benefits. In terms of patient satisfaction, side effects, symptom relief, days missed from work, et cetera, we did not see any difference.”

Yeah, so no matter how many pills you pop, your stuffy and runny nose isn’t getting any better until your body says so, as Garbutt continued:

“Most patients get better despite antibiotics, not because of them. There is a high rate of spontaneous resolution.├óΓé¼┬¥

This finding is particularly worth mentioning because 20% of all prescriptions written in the US every year are for sinus infections. That’s a lot of money and trees wasted if you ask us!
