Archbishop Likens Gay Marriage To Marrying His Mom

Wow. The video above is Archbishop Timothy Dolan trying to speak for a religion that, as we reported earlier, is mostly supportive of gay rights, including same-sex marriage.
Yet here is a man who insists that the definition of marriage can not and should not be altered in any way. And when asked how it threatens marriage between a man in a woman if a same-sex couple would like to also be married, he does not actually give an answer. Instead, he asks, “because then where would it stop?” and likens it to a situation where just because he wants to marry his mother, it doesn’t mean he should be allowed to do it.
He does try to soften the blow of his bigotry by saying that he supports every other kind of gay rights, just not marriage, and that they’ll treat the LGBT community with love and respect. But just not all of it, we guess.
Sadly, a man in his position of authority in the church does sway and affect those who look up to him, and all he can promote is a forced unhappiness on a massive portion of the world. We’re sorry, but we’re just not convinced that celibate, unmarried men should be the ones making the definition of marriage in the first place.
We need and long for the day that people just take that extra, small step towards complete equality. The church has amended views in the past, why not this one? Especially when so many of the followers already support their fellow people?
We don’t want just some equality. Saying “some equality” doesn’t even make sense. You’re either fully equal, or you aren’t really equal at all.
