Old Navy Kicks An Army Vet Out For Upholding The Law

Old Navy, you should be ashamed of yourselves!

In Jacksonville, Fla., Army vet Aaron Bennett was banned from a store because he noticed an employee was wearing a military jacket, which is illegal!

The employee was wearing a Marines uniform that “had rank on the side, couple rows of ribbons and a weapons badge” which is illegal to wear in the U.S. under the ├óΓé¼┼ôStolen Valor├óΓé¼┬¥ act.

Bennett said he just mentioned it to the manager because he didn’t want to embarrass the kid wearing the jacket, and next thing he knew, security was escorting him out of the store.

Old Navy is getting a huge backlash from this and called the whole thing a “misunderstanding” stating:

“Old Navy has the utmost respect for the military and we’re proud of our longstanding tradition of supporting American troops, including our own employees and their family members who serve. We believe there was a misunderstanding between a customer and a store employee and are looking into the matter. We’re truly sorry for any misunderstanding or offense caused by this incident.”

Ironically, this Old Navy store is in a city that has the largest Naval base in the country, so it’s safe to say business may be rough there for a little while.

UPDATE: Old Navy has since spoken with Mr. Bennett to clarify that he had not been banned from their stores and apologized for any miscommunication that may have occurred while shopping. They also issued a statement on Facebook:

At Old Navy, we love our troops and have tremendous respect for the important jobs they do. Many of you have expressed concern over an incident that took place in one of our stores last weekend. All of us at Old Navy understand that this is a deeply personal and emotional issue for our troops, who make sacrifices every day to protect and defend our country. We’re truly sorry for any offense this incident has caused to the military community and we’ve apologized directly to the customer involved.

We warmly welcome all active and retired military personnel and their families in all of our stores. Old Navy has a proud tradition of supporting our troops including partnering with Operation: Care and Comfort, the USO and offering special discounts for military and their families. And we’re proud of our own employees and their families who serve or have served our country.
