A$AP Rocky Charged With Assault Over Street Fight In Sweden

A$AP Rocky charged with assault

Three weeks since getting thrown in a Swedish jail, A$AP Rocky has been charged by prosecutors for assault causing actual bodily harm.

The charge, which could land the rapper in prison for two years if convicted, stems from his alleged involvement in a street fight in Stockholm. Unfortunately for Rocky, he will continue to be behind bars as his trial is pending.

According to reports, an official date has not been set, though the prosecutor is said to be recommending it begin Tuesday, with it continuing Thursday and Friday. He also added he won’t be advocating the full two years for the Multiply artist if convicted.

Prosecutor Daniel Suneson said in a statement on Thursday that Rocky (born Rakim Mayers) was charged with “assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defense and provocation.”

The two other suspects, whom are supposedly part of the Harlem native’s entourage, will also remain in custody until trial after being hit with the same charges.

After studying videos of the brawl and getting witness statements, Suneson revealed he was able to reach his conclusion:

“It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the internet. In addition to video material, the injured party’s statements have been supported by witness statements.”

He also added accusations from another injured party were dropped due to “insufficient supporting evidence,” with the single alleged victim remaining unidentified. Additionally, the 30-year-old hip-hop artist’s bodyguard made a counter allegation against one of the victims, but the case was closed this week, supposedly since the prosecutor believes it was out of self-defense.

As we previously reported, a clip from the street fight showed Rocky and his crew tossing a local young man and throwing punches at him. Witnesses told TMZ at the time the fight started because the man was pursuing the artist and his team over a pair of headphones he claimed they had broken.

The star maintained his innocence on social media before his arrest. Taking to Instagram, he shared a three-minute video appearing to show he and his team were not the aggressors. One person from his entourage, who he later claimed was his bodyguard, can be heard telling the instigators to “go that way — you following us,” while another person can later be heard saying “nobody wants to fight with you, bro.”

The L$D performer even spoke on the incident in the caption of the video, claiming the men were “drug addicts,” who were also “slapping girls’ butts.” He wrote:

“So a few drug addicts are not my fans. We don’t know these guys and we didn’t want trouble, they followed us for 4 blocks, and they were slapping girls butts who passed, give me a break.”

The Swedish Prosecution Authority has dropped all charges against the local man involved in the street fight.

Meanwhile, celebs like Kim Kardashian West, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and more stars have voiced their support for the jailed singer. Even Donald Trump attempted to step in, though there are claims it might have backfired for Rocky.

We’ll of course keep you updated.
