Many would guess Austin Mahone is one of the hottest pop stars for today’s tween audience, but sadly, his record sales aren’t mirroring that!
He has a legion of adoring fans, his musical talents are pretty AH-Mazing, and even though he doesn’t like it, he’s compared to the likes of Justin Bieber!
How is that not the recipe for success?!
Well, according to Avery Lipman, Republic Records president and co-founder, he’s just as dumbfounded as the rest of us!
Lipman said:
“The kid can close down any mall in America, but we are struggling to sell a meaningful amount of records.”
The numbers definitely don’t add up!
The Nielsen SoundScan revealed that Austin’s album, The Secret, sold a mere 46,000 copies when it first made its debut while JB sold roughly 137,000 with his debut record in 2009!
Looks like everyone can just stop with the Justin Bieber-Austin Mahone comparisons now.
