Australian Police Arrest Woman For Allegedly Hiding Needles In Strawberries!

Strawberries police arrest woman needle Australia

Out of the countless issues people have to worry about these days, we can at least cross “needles in my strawberries” off our lists.
Australian police have arrested a woman they say may be responsible for hiding sewing needles in supermarket strawberries in Queensland.
According to the Queensland Police Service, the 50-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after a “complex investigation” into the alleged strawberry contamination earlier this year, which saw at least 100 reported cases of sewing needles or pins found in fruit across the country.

The needles were found in strawberries in all six Aussie states in at least six different brands, prompting Queensland officials to issue a warning in September advising shoppers to cut up their fruits before eating it.
There were also cases of pins found in isolated bananas, apples, and mangos, however authorities ruled these as “copycat” cases. One incident was reportedly due to a child who admitted to playing a prank.
Because this needle epidemic severely hurt Australia’s strawberry profits this year, lawmakers increased the maximum penalty for tampering with food from 10 to 15 years in prison.
The national investigation is ongoing. The woman is expected to appear in court on Monday.
