Logan Erickson was diagnosed with Autism at age 2 and had never uttered a word until he met a special dog.
Logan would often run off forcing his parents, four older brothers and many members of the 800 person town of Unalakleet, Alaska to join in the search.
Even though he kept very much to himself, he had always been drawn to the annual Iditarod race. It was just last year, after a brief meet and greet with musher DeeDee Jonrowe and her dog Mr. Miyagi, 8-year old Logan uttered his first word, “Miyagi.”
After seeing how much of an impact this dog made with their son, the Erickson’s looked into an assistance dog for Logan, however $30,000 was a bit too much for the family.
Upon hearing this sad news, and seeing how influential Mr.Miyagi was for Logan, DeeDee Jonrowe along with help from some other mushers and Eagle Pack Pet Food, helped to raise half the cost of Logan’s assistance dog!
Logan is now 9-years old and just finished his stay at 4 Paws For Abiltiy near Dayton, Ohio, where he found his new friend, a yellow Lab named Juke.
Logan’s parents are already seeing positive changes. Logan says Juke’s name and plays fetch with him. Juke will also makes the search process a lot easier when Logan runs off, since he has the ability to find him.
Eagle Pack Pet Food has also made the generous contribution to supply dog food for life to the Erickson family. Also, since Unalakleet is so remote, Enter Northern Air Cargo, a shipping company that offered to deliver a years’ worth of food to the Erickson family annually.
Wow! We are so happy for the Erickson family and the big hearts of all involved!!
