They grow up so fast, don’t they!
A new study reveals that kids under 8-years-old are more media savvy than ever before. In fact, in this generation when most of our music, TV and movies can be accessed in the palm of our hands, more kids are in reach of media than you would probably even believe.
According to the report, 52% of kids know how to use a mobile media device before their 10th birthday. We’re talking smartphones, iPods, iPads – if they’re in reach of one, they know how to use it! The reporter adds that during a “typical” day, 11 percent of those young ones use a cellphone or other mobile devices for “media consumption,” spending an average of 43 minutes with them.
This information was collected from a survey of 1,384 parents of children up to 8 years old, and was conducted May 27-June 15, 2011. (So, no word yet from the 0-8 demographic on how they like the new iPhone 4S.) Beyond the scoop of mobile media, the survey also learned that most kids under 8 spend double the time watching TV than they do reading and that 30% of newborns (0-1 years old) actually have TVs in their home! Crazy!
Of course, we know we live in a technological age and these kids are just following the future along. Still, no one year old needs a TV in their room! They can’t even speak!
