When Jyoti Kumar was 24 years old, she became pregnant. It was 1978.
Her good news that she was expecting a child was followed by bad news, however, after her doctor discovered her baby was growing outside of her womb.
Babies rarely survive an ectopic pregnancy and mothers experience great pain because of it. When she learned of the great lengths she would need to endure if she hoped to keep her child, Jyoti fled.
She sought treatment for her pain at a small clinic located in Central India. After months of medical care, her suffering subsided months and she assumed her health was just fine.
38 years later, her pain returned.

The now 62-year-old Jyoti was given an MRI so that specialists could see what was causing his stomach discomfort. But doctors never expected what showed up on their scan:

Dr. Mohammad Yunus Shah performed the surgery to remove the remains of Jyoti’s child. He of course says he has NEVER seen anything like this.
Dr. Shah admitted:
“She said the pain had been consistent over the last two months and we found a lump on the lower right side of her abdomen, and feared it was cancer. But it was only after the patient underwent an MRI that we could make out that the mass was in fact a child’s skeleton. We believe this could be the longest case on record at 38 years.├óΓé¼┬¥
Dr. Shah and his team researched their medical journals and could only find a Belgian woman who retained the remains of her ectopic pregnancy for 18 years.
Which is also shocking, but not even half the time of Jyoti’s ordeal!
Thank goodness surgeons caught this when they did. Jyoti was said to be experiencing heavy fever and urinary problems caused by her failing kidneys!
