Wow! Talk about a surprise!
Urmila Sharma, a 28-year-old North India woman, couldn’t afford to get an ultrasound done, so she had no idea she was carrying conjoined twins!
She gave birth to her baby girls, via C-section, on Wednesday at Cygnus JK Hindu Hospital in Sonipat, and the child weighed 7lbs 7 oz!
The unfortunate part is that the dicephalic parapagus twins are not able to be separated, despite having two heads and two spinal cords. Sadly, doctors will have to operate. Dr. Shikha Malik, who delivered the baby, explained the situation, saying:
“The parents are very distressed and we are helping the family the best we can. We only came to know she was carrying conjoined twins after an ultrasound two weeks ago but it was too late to do anything by then. Now the baby is born we will do our best to save her and we hope to operate once her condition is more stable.”
Despite the hopefulness, doctors still say the baby has a slim chance at making it.
Urmila has one other daughter with her hubby Subhash.
