She won’t be getting babysitting gigs after this horrible incident.
Moriah Pulani Gonzales has been charged with felony child abuse after allegedly causing harm to the child she was babysitting.
The 20-year-old California resident was reportedly caught by a nanny camera trying to smother the 13-month-old boy in her care because he wouldn’t stop crying.

According to the report, the camera showed the nanny pacing the room and trying to calm down the baby before lowering him back into the crib with her hands near his face.
The report states that though her back was to the camera, a “clear audible” sound changed to a “muffled cry” — moments later, the boy began to kick and squirm before he went limp.
Once the child stopped moving, police say Gonzales picked him up and took her hands off his face. After he resumed crying, she put the baby back in the crib and left the room.
Officials say the sitter’s official statement was “completely inconsistent” with the video footage, as she denied harming the child in any way in her interview on February 19.

Gonzales advertised her services on popular nanny website Care.com — which states on its website that it is not responsible for “conduct of any care provider or care seeker.”
The company released the following statement about the incident:

“We are deeply troubled by this incident and our thoughts are with the family. The safety of our community is of paramount importance to us and we have proactively contacted local law enforcement to provide whatever assistance we can in this matter.”

Thankfully, the child wasn’t injured. Authorities are still investigating the incident.
