Flat-out, Barilla must not actually want to make as much money as possible, and they must not care about the lives of what was probably a good chunk of their customers!!
The chairman of Barilla’s privately owned company, Guido Barilla, straight-up said in an interview that they would never show same-sex couples in one of their ads because they believe in traditional families, and if the gays have a problem with that they can just go eat somebody else’s moderately adequate pastas.
As a world-wide company, we’re pretty sure this is a mistake he’ll regret business-wise!
Here are the gross things he said:
“We have a slightly different culture. For us, the ‘sacral family’ remains one of the company├óΓé¼Γäós core values. Our family is a traditional family. If gays like our pasta and our advertisings, they will eat our pasta; if they don├óΓé¼Γäót like that, they will eat someone else├óΓé¼Γäós pasta. You can├óΓé¼Γäót always please everyone not to displease anyone. I would not do a commercial with a homosexual family, not for lack of respect toward homosexuals ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ who have the right to do whatever they want without disturbing others ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ but because I don├óΓé¼Γäót agree with them, and I think we want to talk to traditional families. The women are crucial in this.
“I respect same-sex marriage because that concerns people who want to contract marriage, but I absolutely don├óΓé¼Γäót respect adoptions in gay families, because that concerns a person who is not the people who decide.”
……….. WHAT???
We don’t even know where to start as to how offensive that is! We mean, we would hope we shouldn’t even have to point anything out to people reading it!
Luckily, he’s feeling the heat already! He’s already issued a wet-blanket apology:
“I apologize very much for having offended the sensibilities of many. I have the deepest respect for all the people without distinction.”
In other words, his ‘deep respect for everyone’ is that he doesn’t want a portion of everyone to live happy and full lives! Give us a break with the apology — you’re seeing your business and image suffer, there is NOTHING genuine about how you’ve said you’re sorry!
While he has the right to say whatever he wants about who his pasta is for, the world has a right to reject it!
He FURTHER tried to explain and apologize:
‘Regarding my comments at the radio program La Zanzara, I [apologize] if my words generated misunderstandings or controversy or if they hurt some people’s feelings. In the interview I just wanted to underline the centrality of the woman’s role in the family. To be clear, I just want to specify that I do have great respect of every person, without any kind of distinction. I do respect gay people and everybody’s freedom of expression. I also said I do respect gay marriage. Barilla in its advertising has always chosen to represent the family because this is the symbol of hospitality and affection for everyone.’
It’s like he’s hoping we’ll blindly forget what he said about adoption and how gays can just f*** right off and eat something else if they don’t like the complete focus on the ‘traditional’ family.
Why can’t everybody become part of ‘tradition‘? Traditions are created and forgotten EVERY DAY! The tradition should be ‘love,’ not what two sexes are doing the loving!
This is awful!!
