Ben and Casey Affleck are mourning the loss of their mom after she passed away last month following a battle with cancer.
According to an online obituary, Chris Affleck died on June 2 after she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December. She was given six months to live at the time, and “her greatest wish after her diagnosis, however, was to live to see her grandson graduate high school.” Thankfully, the obituary revealed she did on May 31 with her family before passing away “peacefully, in her sleep, two days later.” She was 83 years old.
So sad…
Chris, who was born in New York City in 1942, graduated from Harvard University and taught in public school for 35 years, all while being an advocate for civil rights. She married Timothy Affleck, and they had two kids — Ben in 1972 and Casey in 1975. However, Chris and Timothy divorced when the Argo director was 12.

For those who didn’t know, Chris had a big hand in her sons’ acting careers. She even introduced Ben as a kid to her former Harvard roommate who became a casting director and ended up helping him with auditions for commercials and made-for-TV films. She continued to support them over the years, notably attending the Oscars with Ben in 1998, along with Matt Damon and his mom Nancy, when they won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting.
We send our condolences to the Affleck family. May Chris rest in peace.
