The Town, directed and co-written by Ben Affleck, came in the number one spot at the box office this weekend with $23.8 million.
This is also a pretty big September win for Warner Bros., which distribution president Dan Fellman said, “Everything just came together at the right moment, and we’re thrilled with the opening.”
Emma Stone‘s Easy A came into second place with $18.2 million, which was also a hit for Sony as the film only cost $8 million to produce.
“It’s a terrific opening,” Sony distribution president Rory Bruer said. “You got so much movie for what it cost, and it was a great result.”
