We used to LOVE these guys!
For the past 50 years The Berenstain Bears have been teaching kids the life lessons; from the importance of making your bed, to why we should be nice to the new neighbors (even if they’re Pandas)!
Now the animated series Matho Waunsila Thiwahe (Compassionate Bear Family) will be teaching kids in North and South Dakota how to speak the endangered American Indian language of Lakota.
Jan Berenstain, 88-year-old author of the book series thinks this project is important to help children learn the endangered language. She says:
“I think it’s terrific. We’re very happy about it.”
Twenty episodes of the Berenstain Bears were dubbed into the ancient language and will run on PBS weekly through 2011.
