Gracing the cover of PAPER magazine’s current Beautiful People issue is none other than our fav Beth Ditto!
The sexy lady opens up about her life in the accompanying article, and surprisingly enough, there were a few things we were shocked to learn about Miz Ditto.
Check out some of the HIGHlights below as Ditto reveals how she stole a dress from Marshalls and comes out as “Straight”:
On shoplifting: “I have a hard time not buying or stealing..If I want something, I have to have it. But not anymore. The last time was three months ago—a dress from Marshalls. I used to steal more. I mostly stole from Goodwill. You know, ‘Can’t be bothered. The line’s too long. Put it in your purse.’” She says this with such twinkly, charismatic eyes that I decline to call the authorities and go back to our interview.
On talking to lampposts: “I can talk to anybody..I can talk to a lamppost and make it talk back. There are not that many people I don├óΓé¼Γäót like. And the more I love you, the more I├óΓé¼Γäóll make fun of you.”
On the teacher who encouraged her to sing: “I said to my teacher, ├óΓé¼╦£I can├óΓé¼Γäót be a singer because I├óΓé¼Γäóm not pretty enough and I├óΓé¼Γäóm fat.├óΓé¼Γäó And she looked at me and said, ├óΓé¼┼ôTell that to Nell Carter, babe.├óΓé¼Γäó That changed my life forever!├óΓé¼┬¥
On dating an F to M Portland bus driver for eight years and coming out as ‘straight’: “It├óΓé¼Γäós so West Coast. There├óΓé¼Γäós a lot of people who started on testosterone or estrogen, and there├óΓé¼Γäós a whole movement of people who want to be trans but not take them. Also, it doesn├óΓé¼Γäót matter if you call him ├óΓé¼╦£her├óΓé¼Γäó or he ├óΓé¼╦£she.├óΓé¼Γäó├óΓé¼┬¥ So what do we call Beth now? A straight woman? ├óΓé¼┼ôYeah,├óΓé¼┬¥ says the longtime out lesbian. ├óΓé¼┼ôHere I am coming out as straight!├óΓé¼┬¥
