You don’t hear this often!
While the Rich Kids of Beverly Hills are off squandering their parents’ ca$$$h, Bill and Melinda Gates are raising the future leaders of America by NOT giving them their fortune!
In Vancouver at the TED ideas event, the parents of the world’s richest family opened up about their two daughters and one son, and how much money they’ll get.
The answer is not too much.
Interviewer Chris Anderson asked how they’ve raised their kids in that money-plenty environment, to which Bill level-headedly answered:
“You’ve got to make sure they have a sense of their own ability and what they’re going to go and do.”
So, much of the family’s billions is going to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation when the Gateses pass. Bill further explained this, saying:
“We want to strike a balance so they have the freedom to do anything, but not sort of a lot of money showered on them so that they can go out and do nothing… They won’t have anything like that [billions of dollars]. They need to have a sense that their own work is meaningful and important.”
This is such a morbid topic to even discuss, but the people are wondering!
And it won’t surprise you to know that Mr. and Mrs. Gates got this financial idea from fellow one percenter Warren Buffett.
Hopefully their kids learn from Bill and Melinda because even with all of those billions, they’re still working hard to make the world a better place.
