What a heartbreaking situation.
According to Bindi Irwin, her relationship with her grandfather Bob Irwin became fractured after Steve Irwin‘s tragic death in 2006. Needless to say, Bob was extremely close to his crocodile hunter son and it’s been difficult for him to cope with the loss.

Speaking on the familial distance (the two haven’t seen each other since 2008), the Dancing With the Stars 2015 winner explained:
“Everyone deals with grief differently. When my dad passed away, he chose to distance himself from everything that dad loved the most.”
So sad. At least Mr. Irwin said he was “extremely proud” of his granddaughter’s DWTS stint.
Despite the rift, the 17-year-old had nothing but kind things to say about her gramps. The pretty teen revealed:
“At the moment we’re really just respecting his wishes because he hasn’t had anything to do with us for a long time and he decided his own path. That’s important, so good for him.”
Aw. Hopefully the pair will one day reconnect.
As for the rumors that the rift started over a feud between Bob and Bindi’s mom Terri Irwin, the family chose not to comment.
Hopefully the brood can move past their hurt sooner than later.
