Mad Men. Breaking Bad. House Of Cards. We’re living in a golden age of television. And it’s killing us!
According to a study published in the Journal of American Heart Association, binge watching TV is one of the worst things you can do for your body.
More than eight years of research on over 13,000 subjects suggests that just three hours of TV a day can DOUBLE the risk of an early death! Three hours! That’s only like four episodes of Orange Is The New Black!
Department of Public Health at the University of Navarra chair Dr. Miguel Martinez-Gonzalez, who lead the study, says:
“Television viewing is a major sedentary behavior and there is an increasing trend toward all types of sedentary behaviors. Our findings are consistent with a range of previous studies where time spent watching television was linked to mortality.”
So what can people do to avoid an early grave, like [Spoiler Redacted] from Game Of Thrones or [Spoiler Redacted] from Scandal? Dr. Martinez-Gonzalez says:
“Our findings suggest adults may consider increasing their physical activity, avoid long sedentary periods, and reduce television watching to no longer than one to two hours each day.”
But… how are we going to keep up with our stories??
We recommend exercising WHILE watching TV. It’s the best of both worlds! Right, science? Right?
