This is so cool!
Some people are in dire need of vision restoration, and luckily for them, bionic eyes are now a real thing!
Stanford University is working on technology to restore the ability to see, especially in cases where the loss of sight is brought on by the death of cells in the eyes. Most specifically the ones that detect light.
Early trials of these retinal implants have helped some go from complete blindness to being able to see light and shapes, which is a HUGE step. That clarity we’re looking for can’t be that far off!
This is achieved in a tandem manner — there’s a special pair of glasses feeding info to the back of the implanted eye. That eye then hands it off to the nerves for your brain to decode!
This is huge!
Y’know, as long as we keep ourselves more human than machine… LOL!
