It’s been a week since the horrific bombings at the Boston Marathon and it looks like we might be one step closer to getting some answers.
19 year-old suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is reportedly awake at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he is being treated and is now able to respond to questions. However, due to what are believed to be self-inflicted gun wounds to his neck, he is only able to answer through writing.
Investigators are currently trying to figure out whether the bombings were part of a larger plot and if he and his now deceased brother Tamerlan were acting alone.
Authorities have already found that the brothers had made at least 5 pipe bombs and possessed multiple firearms, leading them to believe that they were planning on striking again in the near future.
Boston police commissioner Edward Davis said:
“We have reason to believe, based upon the evidence that was found at that scene ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ the explosions, the explosive ordnance that was unexploded and the firepower that they had ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ that they were going to attack other individuals.”
Although there is no death penalty in Massachusetts, Dzhokhar will more than likely be charged on a federal level (though no charges have been filed yet,) meaning he could very likely see his own life put on the line for his crimes.
There are still plenty of questions in regards to how the brothers accessed these weapons and what sparked their heinous crimes, but hopefully we are one step closer to getting some answers.
We are glad to see the city of Boston slowly returning to normal and we continue to send our love and support to those who were affected by the bombings.
