Ebola kills nearly everyone who contracts the virus, but two lucky Americans appear to have beaten the odds and SURVIVED!
Dr. Kent Brantly and missionary Nancy Writebol have both been released from an Atlanta hospital after becoming infected while treating patients in Liberia.
The two underwent rigorous blood and urine tests to guarantee that the virus was no longer present in their systems. Doctors and medical experts say the reason they’re alive may be all thanks to an experimental drug cocktail called ZMapp.
The still unproven medication was administered to both Brantly and Writebol while they were still in West Africa. The drug helped them so much, Brantly was even seen walking out of the ambulance as he arrived at Emory University Hospital earlier this month!
Today, he spoke about just how fortunate he is, saying:
“Today is a miraculous day. I am thrilled to be alive, to be well and to be reunited with my family.├óΓé¼┬¥
Many worried that transporting the patients back to the U.S. was a dangerous move and one that could spread the outbreak here in America. But officials at the CDC were confident that the general population’s health was NEVER at risk. And they are still certain of that today.
Bruce Ribner, the medical director in charge of overseeing Brantly and Writebol’s care assured reporters today, saying:
“The medical staff is confident that the discharge of both patients from this hospital poses no public health threat.├óΓé¼┬¥
It’s believed that up to 90% of all Ebola cases end in death. We’re so happy that these two Americans are on the other side of that statistic!
Now if we could just figure out how to mass produce it and help all the non-Americans suffering!
