Just when we thought this tragedy couldn’t get any worse, details like this come out!
A 21-year-old named Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas (not pictured above) literally plummeted to her death on Saturday after an adventure turned into a nightmare. She was at the Ponte do Esqueleto, AKA Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, São Paulo, where she was participating in a bungee jumping excursion. But it all went horribly, horribly wrong when she was thrown off the bridge without her necessary safety rope on! Meaning she fell 131 feet with no way of stopping!
Video has since gone viral of the shocking incident. You can watch (below), but be mindful some may find it disturbing:

She died on scene… but not right away, according to an eyewitness. Oh, no…

Nurse Rayza Dias was at the scene at the time of the tragedy. Speaking to local TV network Domingo Espetacular on Sunday, she revealed that she rushed down to the ground to help the bungee jumper. She recalled:
“I scraped my whole hand because there’s a steep slope down there and only one rope for us to climb down. … It was all covered in mud. I kept going down, down, we walked all the way.”
And when she got to Maria, she was still alive!
The off-duty nurse did her best to comfort Maria while attempting to save her before first responders arrived. Becoming emotional, she shared:
“I even talked to her. I have a habit of joking and saying, ‘Nobody dies on my shift.’ And I told her, ‘Duda [Eduarda], nobody dies on my shift.’ Even though I wasn’t on my shift there.”
Wow.
Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene when first responders arrived. We cannot imagine how terrifying that fall must’ve been, but hopefully, having company in her final moments brought her some ease in that scary time.
An investigation is ongoing into this incident, and we hope nothing more for justice to be served for this poor girl.
