Brenda Song HATED Macaulay Culkin When They Met!

You may not believe it by how cute they are together now, but Brenda Song did NOT like Macaulay Culkin when they first met!

The fan favorite couple are Cosmopolitan’s latest “Love Issue” cover stars, and in their profile published on Monday, they reflected on their humble beginnings. So humble that the Suite Life of Zack & Cody alum’s evil eye made the Home Alone star feel like he had to remove himself from her presence! LOLz!

The lovebirds told the story about first meeting in 2014 at Seth Green’s house. The actor’s show Dads, which Brenda also co-starred in, had just gotten canceled. Mack was staying with Seth at the time, and he attempted to lighten the gloomy mood by joking about the show’s circumstances. Brenda recalled:

“He was trying to be funny about our show being canceled and I was not having it.”

HA! We mean yeah… We’re sure it was a little fresh!

The couple both remember her shooting him dirty looks, which eventually made Mack get up and leave the room. Yikes! He told the outlet:

“She was thoroughly unimpressed by me is what I will say.”

Awkwarddd! Not a great start to a love life… Funny enough, that actually didn’t get started for another three years.

The pair reconnected in 2017 when Seth Green brought them both on to shoot Changeland. At that point, Brenda hadn’t been on a date in two years and had even taken the step of freezing her eggs just in case. But a friend apparently nudged her in Mack’s direction! She recalled her BFF telling her:

“If you’re going to ever have a fling, Mack is a safe person.”

LOLz! Not exactly the most romantic of endorsements, but hey — safe is all too rare when it comes to men!

HA! At that point in the interview, the Party Monster star chimed in to add:

“Mack is very fling-able.”

But a meaningless fling quickly grew deeper as the pair would stay up all night during the shoot to have those types of endless, no judgement conversations where you really, really get to know someone. In one of them, Brenda remembers talking about preferring gender-ambiguous names like “Dakota” if she were to ever have kids… Which struck an emotional cord with Mack as his sister Dakota Culkin tragically died in 2008. He recalled telling her:

“I was like, ‘I’m going to name my firstborn ‘Dakota.’”

Wow!

After Changeland, they “kept expectations low,” but still enjoyed being with each other. But things changed forever when Brenda invited him to spend Christmas with her at her parents’ home one year. It was major for both of them because that was the first time the Disney alum had ever brought someone home for the holidays, and for the My Girl star, he knew he’d never felt that way about anyone before:

“I’d never felt this way before. I believed in her. I mean, I believed in people before, but I believed in her down to my bone marrow. You know what I mean?”

And the rest is history! In 2021, the pair welcomed their firstborn son, whom they DID end up naming Dakota. And less than two years later they welcomed their second son, Carson. A little less gender-neutral, but it fits the American West place name theme! LOLz!

Mack also reveals he’s made it clear to her, no matter what differences arise:

“I’m in this to the end, to the very end.”

Not bad for a couple folks who couldn’t be in the same room when they first met! So sweet! We love their story! Watch more from their Cosmo cover (below):
