No, she doesn’t believe the house was haunted by evil spirits, but she does think it may have been haunted by toxic mold!
Brittany Murphy tragically passed away in 2009 due to a combination of pneumonia, anemia and prescription drug intoxication. Strangely enough, her husband also passed away a 5 months later thanks to a bad case of pneumonia.
Now, the actress’ mother Sharon Murphy is embroiled in a legal battle because she believes mold found her daughter’s home is to blame. The only problem is that there were no signs of any toxic mold in Brittany’s body at the time of her death, as Los Angeles County coroner coroner Ed Winter explained:
“I’m not saying you can’t get pneumonia from mold, but we did all the tests on it — mold did not come up in the toxicology reports.”
That didn’t stop Sharon from pursuing a lawsuit against the people responsible for building the swanky El Lay home, which ended in a settlement last January.
Now, however, Sharon is filing ANOTHER lawsuit. This time against her former lawyer whom she believes convinced her to accept the settlement for the building’s defects while failing to mention that she couldn’t pursue the builders with a wrongful death suit.
She has hired another lawyer to sue her last for legal malpractice and expects the law firm to pay her what she could have won in a wrongful death suit on top of other damages.
We’re assuming her (old) lawyers advised her to accept the settlement since the coroner found no evidence that the mold played a role in her death and have a hard time believing they neglected to carefully explain the options available to Sharon.
This lawsuit definitely won’t bring Brittany back, but it sounds like Sharon thinks if she can’t have her daughter, she deserves a lot of money instead.
